The life of an athlete is not very easy when you consider the number of sacrifices that a person has to make so as to be in peak physical condition. 1. It is important that you enjoy your training. Even if you want to become an athlete, it does not mean that you have to exert yourself to the point of breakdown. The key here is to match your abilities with the type of exercises that you do. Instead of copying exercise programs of other athletes, try a regimen that suits you in terms of intensity and duration.

It is also important that your efforts are commensurate with your objectives. If you have lofty aspirations, then you must work out that much harder.

2. Training is also about consistency and focus. You should know that the progress that an athlete makes while working out is measured by means of heart rate monitors and various devices. This data is then analyzed in the form of bar graphs and charts. So it is important that you keep track of how different types of workouts are affecting your body.

3. You must, at all costs, avoid overtraining. Allow your body adequate rest is almost as important as working out hard. All athletes follow a scientifically designed exercise program that intersperses rest with activity. Some common symptoms of overtraining are:

Legs and arms feeling heavy despite prolonged rest

A general unwillingness to train or go anywhere near exercise-equipment!

4. Another aspect of an athlete's workout is variety. So, you must vary the pace and intensity of your workouts to prevent any chances of burnouts or injuries. An athlete's workout regimen consists of intestinal training when he is not playing and rather light workouts before and after games.

You should do the same because variation can ensure that your workout plan remains effective for longer.

You can try cross training, which is a mixture of the following types of exercises:

Cardiovascular training

Strength training

Flexibility training

Speed, agility and balance training

Plyometrics (exercises aimed to improve the functioning of the nervous system)

But despite the most important component of an athlete's workout is the fitness trainer. A trainer can be an invaluable asset when your sole focus is maintaining and improving fitness in order to strengthen your athletic abilities.
